Robert Burns Birthplace Museum is located in the village of Alloway on the outskirts of the town of Ayr. The main ticket and information points are located at Burns Cottage (accessed via Greenfield Avenue) and at the main museum building (in Murdoch’s Lone). The two main sites are connected by Poet’s Path, a pedestrian walkway.

Getting there

Alloway is well served by various forms of transport. By car, it is served by the A77 trunk road, 40 minutes drive from Glasgow. There is a half-hourly train service from Glasgow to Ayr, where there is a local bus service to Alloway. Glasgow Prestwick International Airport is 8 miles from the museum, with daily flights to destinations across the UK and Europe. Both National Cycle Route 7 and the Ayrshire Coastal Path Network are connected to Alloway by short local routes.

Why not try the new Stagecoach X77 service from Glasgow to the doors of the museum? There are two services daily (three on Sunday) from Glasgow Buchanan Street Bus Station calling en route at Glasgow Prestwick International Airport and Ayr. You can also catch the 361 from Ayr to Burns Cottage, or the 8 from Ayr to the museum (the service terminates at The Loaning, only a short walk from RBBM).
