This plaster bust of Burns was sculpted by David Watson Stevenson in the late nineteenth century.

David Watson Stevenson was born in Ratho on 25 March 1842 and eventually became a member of the Royal Scottish Academy. Stevenson created many statues and busts of Robert Burns throughout his lifetime. He also sculpted most of the busts of famous Scots found in the Hall of Heroes at Stirling's Wallace Monument.

His younger brother William Grant Stevenson, also an eminent sculptor, donated this statue to Museum in 1905.
