Snuff Horn with silver lid

Object Number:
3.5508

Summary

This carved horn snuff container has a horn lid attached with a silver hinge plate on which the initials AB are inscribed. It was presented to the Burns Cottage Museum with the thought that there may have been some connection with the Poet, but this has not been established.

Burns was known to have taken the occasional pinch of snuff but from the number of snuff boxes and mulls which are said to have belonged to him it is hard to imagine how he could have used so many and most must be spurious.
