Summary
One hundred years after Burns’s death, events were held across the country to celebrate his life and achievements. In Glasgow, an exhibition was held at the Royal Glasgow Institute for the Fine Arts in 1896.
The exhibition brought together a large collection of relics related to Robert Burns, his friends and family. This catalogue lists all the items on display at the exhibition. The inclusion of an object is often used as a measure of its authenticity because this was one of the largest collections of Burns items brought together at one time. However, provenance was not guaranteed but the organisers.
The catalogue was published two years after the exhibition. Only 400 copies were printed.
