MS: 'Ken ye what Meg o' the mill has gotten'
- Robert Burns, Author
- Object Number:
This song was written in 1793. Burns based this version on an earlier traditional ballad sung to the tune of O ken ye what, Meg. This version is sung to a different song, O bonie lass, will ye lie in a barrack?
Burns sent the song to George Thomson for consideration for A Select Collection of Original Scottish Airs for the Voice. Burns wrote of the work, 'my song...pleases myself so much, that I cannot without disgust try my hand at another song to the air; so I shall not attempt it.'
