Summary

Many portraits of Robert Burns were created during his lifetime, but each one presents quite a different image of the poet.

This side view of Robert is the most accurate surviving image. It was ‘cut’ when the poet was 35 years old. The silhouette shows that he had a distinctive nose, which is often used to authenticate other portraits of him.
