Object Number:

Summary

This painting by an unknown artist depicts the 1844 Burns Festival procession, which started in Ayr, as it passes over the new and old brigs o' Doon and enters the festival site at Burns Monument.

The Burns Festival on 6 August 1844 attracted over 100,000 participants to Alloway. A banqueting marquee (on the right in the painting) was specially constructed for 1,400 invited guests and a platform was built in front of Burns Monument to seat the guests of honour, including the poet’s three surviving sons.
