Summary

Robert Burns was initiated as a Freemason into the Lodge St. David No. 174 in Tarbolton, Ayrshire on 4th. July 1781. He was 22 years old and continued as a Freemason until his death. It was due to his Masonic connections that it was partly the reason why Burns was so widely received during his Edinburgh stay.

This lodge was disbanded in 1843 and re-constituted in Mauchline in 1877 as Lodge St. David.
