Summary

During the summer and autumn of 1775, Burns attended the ‘noted school’ of Hugh Rodger at Kirkoswald, a village fifteen miles from Burns’s home at Mount Oliphant. Here, Burns became skilled at ‘Mensuration, Surveying, Dialling, &c’ all useful skills for a future farmer.

This tuning fork was used by Mr Roger in the Kirkoswald school around the time of Burns’s attendance.
