MS: Letter from Robert Burns to Captain Robert Riddell, 27 September 1791

the very first sketch of a few stanzas,
almost extempore, on a very amiable
Subject. - I am pleased with some of
the lines; perhaps because they
are new; but they shall see a few
chosen friends, or be entirely supprest,
as it shall be their fate to meet with
your & M.rs Riddel's applause or
disapprobation. -
I shall not be able to go to
town tomorrow. -
I have the honor to be.
Sir,
your deeply indebted humble servt.
Robt. Burns
