Sunday Talk: ‘Ayrshire Place-Names: a window on the linguistic history of southwest Scotland’

Join Dr. Alasdair C. Whyte of Glasgow University as he explores Ayrshire’s fascinating history through its place-names.  Comparisons are drawn with place-names in neighbouring areas of southwest Scotland.  These place-names provide evidence of the languages spoken locally from the medieval period to the present day: Brittonic, Old English, Old Norse, Gaelic and Scots.
