Sunday Talk: Dr Craig Lamont – The Books of Burns: how print culture shaped the Bard

Dr. Lamont provides fresh research for the Oxford University Press Edition of the Works of Robert Burns (Edited by Gerard Carruthers) and the Edinburgh University Press Edition of the Works of Allan Ramsay (Edited by Murray Pittock).

In this talk, Craig provides some insight into his new descriptive bibliography of Robert Burns’ editions, looking at how the Kilmarnock edition inspired an unprecedented and sensational rise in the esteem of Scots poetry. His works were printed in various forms and in various places, sometimes without his permission. This is the story of Burns’s coming of age as a world writer in the context of his books.
