Our latest visiting exhibition, 'Witches' Brouhaha', comes from Sharmanka Kinetic Theatre.
SHARMANKA (Russian for Barrel-Organ) was founded by sculptor-mechanic Eduard Bersudsky and theatre director Tatyana Jakovskaya in St.Petersburg (Russia) in 1989. Audiences in many countries have been fascinated by its magic, and based in Glasgow since 1996 it has gained a reputation as one of the city’s hidden treasures.
At the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum Sharmanka will show five ‘kinemats’ or motorized mechanical sculptures. One is themed on Tam o’ Shanter and the other four on witches.
The machines will ‘come alive’ one at a time with theatrical movement, light and sound. At the end of each 10minute show they will all perform together. The static show can be seen any time, the performances will occur frequently daily.
Perfect for Halloween and Burns Birthday this show will delight children of all ages!
